Skype's beta version 5.5, desktop software for Windows now features even more extras for Facebook making cross platform messaging more seemless and user friendly. Users can now instant message their Facebook friends via Skype, "like" and comment on status updates, as well as view their contacts without even having to log in to the social networking site.
Having reached nearly 687 million active users at the beginning of June 2011, Facebook continues to grow towards the 700 million mark. According to Inside Facebook Gold data service, most new users continue to come from countries that have been noted as relatively late in adopting the social metworking site, which has been the trend for the past year. Facebook is currently testing a new homepage feature called "Happening Now". The testing of this feature, which will include a fraction of a percentage of Facebook users, displays current status updates, likes, as well as other activity from friends in a real-time feed similar to that of the Twitter timeline. The feature test is in a effort to see if it could assist in keeping users more engaged on a page, as well as make content more immediately available for consumption.
