Google has recently released their latest addition to their page speed family – Page Speed Service, which follows in the footsteps of Page Speed Browser Extension (released 2 years ago), mod pagespeed (released last year) and Page Speed Online API (released earlier this year). The service automatically enables web pages to load at a much faster rate and is set to make webmasters’ lives even more hassle free in terms of installation.
Bing is set to host a schema.org workshop on the 21st September 2011 in Silicon Valley following many discussions and feedback received after 2 June this year when it was announced that the search engine would collaborate with Google and Yahoo in order to create and support a set of standards for structured data markup on web pages. The workshop will serve as a “working session” to all who participate covering feedback and discussing options.
Google recently announced that they will be “winding down” Google Labs in an effort to eventually put an end to Labs products and technologies. Along with Google Directory, Google Toolbar for Firefox has been dropped recently. An updated toolbar for Firefox 5 hasn’t been updated at all, which has surprised many users. Google has admitted that the product itself has not been discontinued and that they have merely not updated Google Toolbar for Firefox 5. It still however, works in the latest Firefox releases, provided an Add-on Compatibility Reporter is installed.
ComScore Inc, a leader in measuring the digital world released its monthly comScore qSearch analysis within the U.S market place recently. Leading the explicit core search market in June this year was Google Sites with 65.5% of search queries being conducted. Yahoo! Sites came in with 15.9% and Microsoft Sites with 14.4%. A total of 16.7 billion explicit core searches were conducted during the month of June with Google ranking in first – 10.9 billion searches.
Yahoo Site Explorer, is due to shut down later this year following a decline in sitemap submissions and an interest in webmaster tool interface. The service, once well respected, has become somewhat redundant since Yahoo began migrating their services to Microsoft, who function in much the same territory, both as a source for organic results on the web. Bing continues to make strides in improving their webmaster tools. Among the most recent includes updates on adding sitemap file type options including RSS, Atom and TXT; expanded navigation, notification options within a users' preferences menu and added support for 34 languages including Italian, Arabic, Japanese, Spanish and Hindi. Bing has recently been gathering feedback as to what will help their users in an effort to enhance the overall experience using their Webmaster Tools. Through what they're calling, the "Honey Badger" update, more monthly content will be added for Bing Webamaster account users in the near future, as well as other updated features currently being built.
